The purpose of the Phlebotomy Course is to provide prospective Phlebotomists, Laboratory Technicians, Nurses, and Health Care Workers with the necessary knowledge and insight to become a successful technician in the laboratory blood specimen collection area and/or nursing blood sample collection areas. They will also learn step-by-step how to communicate with the patient, take the patient’s blood, and make the whole blood taking process a pleasant encounter for the patient.
The programme will enable the learners to develop and demonstrate knowledge and understanding, qualities, skills, and other attributes in the following areas:
- The skills and attitudes appropriate to assist in providing care.
- The impact of psychological, sociological, political, spiritual factors and how these affect the patients and their families.
- The health sciences will reinforce and support nursing practice.
- The role and contribution of the Phlebotomist to public health
Upon successful completion of the course most phlebotomists will be able to work in outpatient care centres, hospitals, physicians’ offices or laboratories.

- School Certificate or GCE Ordinary Level with at least two (2) Credits in any two subjects preferably one science subject and passes in three (3) subjects, including English at the same sitting; or, two sittings
- School Certificate or GCE Ordinary Level with at least one (1) Credit preferably in one science subject and passes in five (5) subjects, including English at the same sitting; or, two sittings;
- Certificate level 4 in the relevant field.
- Potential candidates reckoning at least 3 years of working experience in the relevant field may access this qualification through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process.

- Provides entry level knowledge to students in the field of Phlebotomy
- Provides a formal qualification to address skills gaps and mismatch in the collection points and laboratories
