Currently, Polytechnics Mauritius Ltd (Pamplemousses Campus) is offering a ‘National Diploma in General Nursing’ programme awarded by the Mauritius Institute of Health. This is a three-year, full-time nursing programme consisting of both 45% theory and 55% nursing practice. Throughout the three years, the Diploma Nursing Programme combines both clinical placement experiences and theoretical input with the aim of preparing a safe, competent nurse practitioner equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge, confidence and sound attitude to meet the needs of a changing healthcare environment in Mauritius.
All theoretical inputs take place at the Pamplemousses Campus, whereas all clinical placements take place within the five regional public hospitals supported by professional mentors. Furthermore, the student nurses on the programme are given the opportunity to undergo some weeks of practice in some Specialty areas such as Oncology, Burns, Cardiac Centre, Community Health, Mental Health, Ophthalmology and ENT.
Upon successful completion of the Diploma in Nursing Programme, the student nurses are eligible to apply for registration with the Nursing Council of Mauritius.
The Polytechnics Mauritius Limited is currently working on a strategic plan to introduce, expand and implement other courses in nursing and paramedical in order to be an excellent centre and hub for nursing education in Mauritius.
The goal is to cultivate advance nursing professionals with competence, knowledge and skills in managing specific and specialised healthcare issues and improve the clinical practice.
