Applying at Polytechnics Mauritius as an International student

Applying for your further studies in a university which is far from home can appear to be hectic and challenging, but we are here to provide the required help and to guide you through the application procedures.

Follow our step by step guide on how to apply as an international applicant.

Choose a course

Candidates are advised to browse through the list of all our courses under programmes on our website.   Once you have selected your interested field of study you may either register your interest on our website or you may directly contact one of our admissions staff on: studentaffairs@poly.ac.mu to have more details pertaining to the course.

Check your eligibility

All candidates who are from countries who do not follow the Cambridge certification, Polytechnics Mauritius will have to request for an equivalency report from the National Equivalency Committee of Mauritius to confirm your eligibility for the programme that you are applying for.

The process may take between 3-4 weeks

Below the list of documents required for the equivalency report

  1. Birth Certificate
  2. Academic qualification
  3. Academic marksheet

Please note that these documents will have to be certified true copy by a legal person (Stamped of certified true copy on each document)

Your first language is not English

If English is not your first language, you will need to provide proof of your English proficiency before you can commence your studies at Polytechnics Mauritius.

You can do this by demonstrating that you have completed specific secondary qualifications, by taking an English language skills test, or by completing a relevant English language.

English language skills test we accept:

  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic with a score of at least 6.0.

Gather your documents

Once we have received your equivalency report, you may start sending your application to the admissions team.

We require official documents to support your application, including a scanned copy of your passport identification page.

Other documents which will also need to be included:

  • English language results
  • academic transcripts
  • Birth certificate
  • Application form
  • Reference letter
  • Certificate of character

Documents submitted in a language other than English must be accompanied by a complete English translation made by an accredited translator with a government body or the Registrar of the issuing institution.

Check your finance

Before finalising your application, you should understand the fees you will need to pay. These include:

  • Application fee USD 100 please note that this amount is not refundable
  • Down Payment – $1000 – One off Fees

Sending your application

Completed application form should be submitted to the admissions department via email. At the time of submitting their application candidate should ensure that the proof of payment for the application fee of USD 100 is submitted.

What happens next

For candidates who are looking to apply for courses which requires three credits for entry level, please note that you will have to go through a diagnostic test and preparatory course. The preparatory course is discipline specific and uniquely designed to bridge the gap and put all students on an equal footing to succeed through a series of intensive lectures and catch up sessions. 

As a part of our entry requirements, all candidates are requested to go through an interview panel which is compulsory.  The interview is conducted via Skype.

The date of the interview is communicated by either the Programme Leader or Programme Coordinator of each respective area of study.

Receive a response

Once your application has been assessed, and that you have successfully completed all the required steps for your application, you will receive an email from the Programme Leader or Programme Coordinator with the outcome.

Offer letter

An offer letter will be sent to you upon your selection for the course. You are expected to revert back confirming your acceptance for the offer of seat to the Programme Leader and Programme Coordinator, not more than one week after being accepted for the programme.

Pay your fees

All international students are required to make a down payment of USD 1000 to secure their seat for the intake that they have applied for.

The remaining balance for the tuition fees will have to be settled at least two weeks prior to the arrival of the student in Mauritius.

For your next academic year payment will have to be made before the start of the new semester. If the application fee is not settled prior to the beginning of each calendar year, the school will have the right not to handover the previous academic results to the students or it can also result in the cancellation of the student visa.

Apply for your visa

Once the down payment of USD 1000 has been successfully credited into Polytechnics Mauritius account, the admissions office will proceed with the application procedures of the students.

A list of documents required will be sent to the students and the list is as follows (all documents should have to be original copies and should be sent via DHL/UPS or FEDEX to the admissions department:

  • Application to enter Mauritius
  • Letter of student
  • Accommodation letter signed by student
  • Accommodation letter signed by landlord as well as proof of address and ID copy of the landlord
  • Medical report: chest xray, HIV, Hepatitis B
  • Letter from sponsors of study
  • ID copy of sponsor
  • Bank details of the landlord for the last 3 months

Please note that once your visa application has been processed by the Passport and immigration office, you will receive a temporary visa valid for 1 month. Within the one-month Polytechnics Mauritius will schedule another medical test (HIV/ Chest X-ray- Hepatitis B) with a medical laboratory. However, please note that the fee will have to be bound by you.

Once we have received the medical report, then the report will be submitted to the PIO office, and then you shall receive your permanent study visa valid for the duration of your studies in Mauritius.

Terms and Conditions for rental of accommodation:

The following terms and conditions apply to your application for accommodation, please review these terms carefully and print or save a copy for your reference.

  • If you are under 18 years of age you must have consent of a parent or legal guardian when making an application.
  • Students should comply to the contract given to them by the tenant and a deposit of a minimum of 1-month deposit (non- refundable) should be paid in advance
  • The deposit will be refundable only after 3-6months depending on the landlord agreement and students should inform the tenant of the termination of tenancy. Please note that the tenant will make necessary refunds subject to any breakages, repairs or replacement of materials.
  • Polytechnics Mauritius will not be liable for any loss of damage to the student’s valuables and personal belongings.

Your arrival in Mauritius

In order for us to organise your airport transfer, we will suggest that you ensure to send us a copy of your air ticket at least 1 week prior to your arrival.

To make your arrival as smooth and welcoming as possible, members of the staff will meet you at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam international airport.

Another reason to come to Polytechnics Mauritius on Arrival Day is that you will be able to participate in the Orientation Week from the start. The Orientation Week filled filled with activities, excursions and tours and is a great opportunity to make new friends, see new places and learn more about the Mauritian culture.
