Moving to a new country often means facing a mountain of forms and rules, but you are not alone in this process. The International Student Cell walks you through the entire student visa process, making sure every piece of paperwork is in order as per the requirements of the Passport and Immigration Office of Mauritius. We also keep a close eye on any changes in immigration policies and support you with any visa renewals or extensions you may need throughout your time at Polytechnics Mauritius.
Our support kicks in well before you board the plane. Once you accept your place at Polytechnics Mauritius, the International Student Cell sends out a comprehensive pre-arrival package.
For a smooth first step into your new home Polytechnics Mauritius arranges the airport pickup. You just have ensure that your flight details are shared with us at least a week ahead, and we will make all the necessary arrangements for a friendly face to wait for you at the airport when you arrive.
Though on-campus housing is not available at Polytechnics Mauritius, our International Student Cell is dedicated to ensuring every student finds a place to stay. A list of vetted and updated list of rental properties are shared with the students prior to the visa process
Transitioning to a new educational and cultural landscape can feel intimidating, which is why we launch every semester with an Orientation Week for our international students also known as the discovering Mauritius. We assist our students for a smooth transition from guided tours and clear briefings on the academic support and standards during induction day. In collaboration and support of each faculty the International Student Cell encourages students to take part in national and cultural events, from Diwali and Eid to the vibrant African Union Day, ensuring that every newcomer feels the warmth of a multi-layered Mauritian welcome.
Our support continues long after orientation. The International Student Cell with the support of the Academic Department and the Educational Psychologist is here to help students tackle any academic or personal issues. In collaboration with the academic team close follow ups on the academic progression are made. We also assist connecting students with the Educational Pyschologist as and when required. The Educational Psychologist assist in providing support related to mental health and counselling sessions. At Polytechnics Mauritius, the Buddy programme has also been put in place. The Buddy programme aim is to pair our new international students with current local students who provide a friendly face, helping hand, and first Mauritian friendship that can make a world of difference for new arrivals.
Your health and safety are our top priorities. The International Student Cell organizes the medical tests for international students upon their arrival in Mauritius, including with assisting students to find a health insurance. We also provide safety advice for living in Mauritius, guide students on using public transport, and explain how to get emergency assistance.
The international Student Cell assistance does not stop upon completion of the course. The Cell remains a bridge between the alumni and Polytechnics Mauritius. We encourage our graduates to keep in touch through the alumni, and act as a mentor for the new joiners and celebrate their achievements, creating a wave of inspiration and support for those who follow.
